Heart Relic of St. Padre Pio Visiting U.S.

Padre Pio Relic Tour Catholic Pilgrimage Sites

The heart relic of St. Padre Pio will be available for veneration at several parishes in the Northeast.  This is the first time a major relic of Padre Pio has come to the United States.

The relic tour will begin on Wednesday, September 21st at Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell, MA from 9am to 5pm with veneration throughout the day.  It will then move to  be in Boston’s St. Leonard Church on the North End that evening and will be available for veneration from 7pm to midnight.

On Thursday, September 22 the relic will be at the  Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Boston, in Braintree , MA from 9am-5pm with veneration throughout the day and Mass at Noon.  It will then proceed to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, in Boston from 7pm-Midnight with a Spanish language Mass at 7pm, followed by veneration until Midnight.  The relic will remain there Friday, September 23, for the Feast of St. Padre Pio from 9am to midnight.  Mass will be at 9am and the relic will be available for veneration all day.

The 14th annual St. Padre Pio festival will be held Parish of St. Padre Pio/Church of Our Lady of Pompeii in Vineland, NJ on Sunday, September 25th.  The night before the festival  on September 24th, the Church will hold a 5pm Mass with a reception the heart relic of St. Padre Pio and an all vigil for veneration.

We are not aware at this time if the relic of St. Padre Pio will be visiting other locations within the U.S. or if the relic will be returning to Italy without making additional stops.  We will continue to update the website as we have more information.

Padre Pio was a Capuchin Monk born in 1887 in Pietrelcina, Italy.  He suffered physical maladies and was sickly throughout his life.  In 1918 he had a vision of Jesus while offering the Mass and when it ended had the stigmata in his hands, feet, and side. Padre Pio became renowned during his lifetime for his abilities and people came from all over the world to have him hear their confessions.  At his urging, the House for the Relief of Suffering, a 350 bed hospital was built.  The relics of Padre Pio are on loan from the Shrine Monastery of St. Pio of Pietrelcina in San Giovanni Rotundo, Italy where they are available for veneration by the public.

St. Padre Pio, pray for us!

As far as I know there are no other trips/stops planned for the relic. If you’re interested in having the relic come to the Philippines, I recommend having your Parish priest reach out to the priests at the Shrine of St. Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy where the relic is permanently housed to see if it would be possible. Good luck & God Bless!

Hi – The heart relic of Padre Pio has returned to Italy. I’ve compiled a list of Padre Pio relics that are available for veneration in the United States (https://catholicpilgrimagesites.wordpress.com/2016/05/31/padre-pio-relics-in-the-united-states/) and there is one located in Sarasota, FL. There is also a tour of Padre Pio’s relics is in the process of being organized for 2017 and they are open to hearing from churches that would like to host the relics for public veneration for a day or so. For more information about hosting the relic tour contact Katia Felty at 570-259-9903 or Rynoles@gmail.com. If you are specifically interested in the having Padre Pio’s heart relic come to your Parish I recommend having your priest contact the priests at Padre Pio’s Shrine in San Giovanni Rotondo to find out what it would take to make that happen. Good luck & God Bless!
