Blessed Jose Sanchez del Rio will soon be declared a saint as Pope Francis has approved a second miracle attributed to his intercession. He was a member of the Cristero movement that fought for religious freedom against the Mexican government that was persecuting the Catholic Church. He was born March 28, 1913 and was captured February 25, 1928 at the age of 14. He was brutally tortured and and the soldiers tried to get him to shout “death to Christ the King” to which he shouted “Viva Cristo Rey!” or “Long Live Christ the King!” He was depicted in 2012 in the movie “For Greater Glory.” You can venerate a relic of the finger bone of this heroic martyr Monday to Saturday 7am-6pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Taft, Texas.
Blessed Jose Sanchez del Rio, pray for us!
